Welcome to my quick and raw UK slang vocab lesson. I always think to myself that I should have been born in the United Kingdom and I’m not sure exactly why. Maybe it is because I really dig the lingo and humor that comes from this island. I have added some of the slang I learned so far (below) and I’m waiting for any of my UK cronies that read this to correct me if any descriptions I give are wrong. Very cool words that I wish I could use in every day conversation here in the USA. But every time I try to fit these words into a conversation, people look at me like I’m a jackball. Oh well.
- UK Word: “Bloke” Meaning: Man
- UK Word:“Quid” Meaning: Currency (slang for pound) Like saying “bucks” in place of “dollars”
- UK Word “Geezer” Meaning: Masculine Individual or Tough Guy
- UK Word: “Innit” Meaning: Isn’t It?
- UK Word: “Mincer” Meaning: Slacker
- UK Word: “Bullocks” Meaning: LOOK IT UP (It’s a funny one)

I waited patiently through all the media coverage and high school style gossip over these recent “Writers” Guild strikes and I’m ready to get a few thoughts off of my mouth regarding this meaningless topic. I’ve numbered these ideas in no particular order just to add to your reading experience.
- I never knew that Hollywood films required a writing staff or even had official scripts for that matter. I’ve seen more creative and well thought out stories in my 6 year old nieces coloring book.
- I’m sure that the writers had some solid reasons to go on strike, but wasn’t the strike itself a perfect opportunity to find NEW WRITERS who could write something better than the redundant formula Hollywood flick that we see OVER AND OVER AND OVER again. (Thanks Hollywood)
- Since when did a writer go on strike? I thought the idea of writing was to express freedom, creativity, and emotion through the “mighty pen”. Looks like the almighty dollar wins again!
- I think just like in many industries, most of these so called “writers” where at the right place at the right time. I am willing to bet that the average schmuck off the street could write a better screenplay than the ridiculous dribble we are pushed every week at the box offices.
- Come to think of it, isn’t it like 15 bucks just to walk into a film these days? What does anyone in Hollywood have to complain about? Shut the hell up and find a real cause to throw money at.

I’m sick of seeing these fake smile wielding, plastic hair sporting, monkey suit wearing, removed from reality, blank facial expression having news anchors. Seriously are these real people or cartoons? Where do they come from? I have a hard time believing they have real feelings or have an understanding of details within the stories they report every day. They ask questions like, “what does it feel like to lose your mother”, as if they don’t know the answer to that idiotic question.
I do admit, these overpaid news anchors do a great job of report the fluff stories with expert style! But if I really needed to know how many pies where baked by a given town, I would rather turn on the cooking channel.
